Nordstrom's is not Gluten Free Friendly!!!

I had an interesting experience at Nordstrom Cafe today and I wanted to take a moment to share it with you all. I have never felt uncomfortable taking care of my health needs at a restaurant before, and was very surprised at the reaction and treatment I received by bringing my own food to eat lunch with my mom today. Check out my story and leave some comments. I'd love to hear what you all think.

Gluten Free Products Are Too Healthy?

Over the weekend I was in Whole Foods doing my regular shopping. One of my favorite sweet treats are the Enjoy Life chocolate bars. To my shock I was informed that these bars will be discontinued at this Whole Foods because the bars are too healthy. People do not want chocolate bars that are free of the common food allergies as well as sugar. I was shocked! This is absolute craziness. If you can eat sugar, gluten, corn, dairy, nuts, fish, then what are you complaining about? Go eat a Snickers. For all of us who have these allergies we know how important it is to be able to find great treats to eat.

On top of this information I had a friend send this article my way Celiac disease may have little influence on soaring gluten free market. After reading this I was more outraged. At the end of the day the gluten free market is about money, not about protecting Celiacs health. My fear with this situation that the article discuses  is that companies will be less careful about cross contamination because market research is showing that Celiacs are the smallest group purchasing gluten free products.

All this information is truly scary to me. I would love to hear feedback about what you all think. Do you purchase gluten free products because it is a fad diet or because you must follow the diet?
